Apple iPhone XS vs Google Pixel 3 XL |
Google’s Pixel
3 XL is currently the most expensive smartphone in Indian market and with a the
price tag upto 83000 INR for the base 64 GB model. But at given price Google Pixel
3 XL will likely compete with the iPhone XS.
let's take a
quick look at the comparison between the iPhone XS and the pixel 3 XL in terms
of specifications and features.
The iPhone XS
(64 GB) start at a price of 99,900 INR in India which makes it one of the most
expensive smartphone in the market. The second one is the iPhone XS max, keep
in mind that the pixel 3 XL (64 GB) is a little bit more affordable in
comparison because it starts at 83000 INR. However, the 128 GB Variant will
cost you 92,000 INR.
Thought unlike
the iPhone and pixel 3 XL only comes in two storage variants 64 GB and 128 GB.
Google is giving you unlimited storage space for photos via the Google Photos
app
Both the
pixel 3 XL and the iPhone XS do not have a micro SD slot either. Another thing
to keep in mind is that the pixel 3 XL is a single sim smartphone in India. Whereas
the iPhone XS will be getting a dual sim feature via e-Sim. Apple is already
activated this with the iOS 12.1 update.
Design
Let's
quickly talk about the design of the iPhone XS versus Googlepixel 3 XL. So they
are very similar to their predecessors.
Now the
pixel three XL has one big change compared to the previous phones. And that's
the notch and it also comes with dual front cameras. The iPhone XS does not
have dual front cameras.
Google Pixel
3 XL is still sticking with a single rear camera at the back, iPhone XS of
course has two cameras on the back which will work quite prominently
Pixel 3 XL
now has a complete glass back design. Google has added a half matte finish, which is certainly very
pretty. But in terms of looks the iPhone XS in gold does standout.
Display
The iPhone
XS continous with the 5.8 inch OLED display, and this is a top notch display. If
you are looking at a Premium phone, it doesn't get better than the iPhone XS.
Now talking
about the pixel 3 XL. This one comes to the 6.3 inch QHD plus resolution
display. And this time, Google has really improved the quality compared to its
predecessor.
Those who
want a slightly bigger display, iPhone Xs max does still exist and it comes with
a bigger 6.5 inch OLED panel.
Performance
Let's quickly
talk about the processors on these two smartphones. The iPhone XS is of course
powered by the A12 bionic chipset and when it comes to benchmarks, this one's blows
the competition right out of the park. This is one of
the fastest phones in the
market.
And pixel 3
XL on the other hand is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. Now
of course this is a flagship chipset, but we've seen a lot of other players
also use this. So the pixel three doesn't really seem that exciting.
Now Google pixel
3 XL comes with 4 GB RAM, and there have been issues of apps getting killed in
the background due to memory management issues as well.
Overall, we've not
experienced any major performance issues with either of the phone's. iPhone XS
still has the edge, thanks to the A12 bionic chipset.
iPhone XS of
course runs iOS 12, which comes with improved notifications. So that's not
really new for Android and features like an emoji, which you won't really find on
the pixel 3 series. There's also improved emphasis for augmented reality apps
with iOS 12. And yes, like all Apple products it does put the focus on privacy.
Pixel 3 XL
runs Android 9.0 (pie), and this one was focused on improving user experience
to the use of artificial intelligence. It comes with features like adaptive
battery, smarter notifications, and adaptive display.
Both phones
also come with a feature to help users disconnect from their smartphones and
take some control back from the digital life. On Android. It's called Digital
wellbeing. On iOS it is screen time.
On Android
you can set individual timers for each app. On iOS It is more done on the basis
of categories. So of course android is giving you a little bit more control,
once you exceed your time because it is the app gets rolled out and you can't
access it.
Cameras
Now let's
talk about the cameras, the iPhone XS comes with a 12 MP + 1MP camera back and 7
MP true depth camera at the front.
With the
pixel 3 XL, Google continues to the strength of a single rear camera which is
12 MP on back and now it has two front cameras which are 8 MP each.
Now in the
camera department when it comes to proper lighting, both phones are evenly
matched and it will boil down to user preference on which one you prefer.
In low light
mode the pixel 3 XL might have a slight edge and it's going to get something new
called Night side which is supposed to improve this even further.
Still both
cameras offer excellent portrait mode options which to keep most users happy.
Now talking
about the battery, the iPhone XS, the smaller battery at 2658 mAh. The pixel 3
XL of course, the bigger one at 3430 mAh.
If you want
a bigger battery on the iPhone, the iPhone XS max always an option
which has a
3000 mAh Plus battery.
Both phones
offer support wireless charging as well, but the pixel 3 Xl get fast charging
on its wireless charger.
So which is
the right pick…
Now these
are both premium smartphone with a very high price tag in India the iPhone XS is of course known for its
reliability, excellent cameras and speed which does put it ahead of the
competition.
The Google Pixel 3 XL though it's all about
Google software and yes, it does come with an excellent camera especially where
the low light mode is concerned.
